I Wanted To Tell My Boss To "Go Shove It"

Have you ever wanted to tell your boss "to shove his job where the sun doesn't shine"?

I have.

Do you think management and C-suite executives don't care about you or your career?

I did.

Does the "office politics" drive you insane?

It did me.

I'd been working as a software developer for 3 or 4 years.

And I was utterly fed up.

I thought that was my lot in life. To turn up every day. Write code for a company, that was making the owners rich.

While I was scraping by.

I'd ask my boss and the Managing Director for a pay rise.

"Sorry, there's no cash flow in the business at the moment".

Try to "advance my career" and ask for a promotion, and more responsibility.

Only for my boss to block me at every turn. Because he worried that I would steal his job.

I'd look at other employees who were getting "fast-tracked". Because they knew how to "play the office politics game".

To say it was frustrating is an understatement.

I could move jobs?

But you'd end up in the same position.

So, what can I do?

Start My Own Business

My end goal was to start my own business.

The problem was things can take time and money.

"I could build a SaaS product?"

But that takes a long time and effort to get it built and get subscribers.

"I could start an eCommerce store".

But that takes a lot of upfront capital to meet demand and make sales.

So what's left?

Freelancing.

You're already exchanging time for money. Why not double, triple, or even quadruple how much you earn each month?

Plus, you can pick and choose what to work on.

No more rubbish tasks. That your boss doesn't like to do.

Only work with people you like and trust.

No more office politics, or management that doesn't know what they are doing.

Work on your schedule and where you want.

No more sat at a desk in a drab office. And wasting hours commuting.

Imposter Syndrome Is "A Bitch"!

There are still hurdles that you need to overcome when starting freelancing.

But, they are all internal.

The battle is with yourself.

Once you've overcome the impostor syndrome, you'll be onto a winner.

And I'll let you into a little secret.

Having imposter syndrome is a good thing. It means you are on the right track.

That what you are doing, and what you thinking about is the right thing to do.

The 3 things that I found that blocked me. And from talking to freelancers, they found it difficult starting too (more on this later).

They are:

  • What do I want? Why do I want it?
  • What can I do? What do I have to offer?
  • What business will work with me? Who can I help?

3-Step Process To Starting Your Own Freelancing Business.

I created the "Freelance Escape Plan" to help others.

From my own experience.

And from talking to other freelancers I met.

They all said the same thing. They all had the same struggles when starting.

I've split the guide into 3 sections.

Each section addresses the 3 main barriers to your success.

Part 1: Start with why.

Once you know why you want to start freelancing. You can start setting goals for your business.

This helps you get started and continue to move forward.

At the end of the day. You want to live life on your terms.

But without figuring out your "why". You won't be able to stick at it and have a direction to go in.

Part 2: Skills that people will pay for.

You may think that you've not got any skills that people will pay for.

But if you're in a job.

Or had a job in the past.

You've developed skills that someone paid for.

Also, things like hobbies and interests could make you more money than your current job role.

But without going through the process of working out what skills you have. You'll always think that you have nothing to offer.

This guide solves that problem

Part 3: Define your target client.

A famous marketer once said:

"If your product or service is for everyone. Then it is for no one".

We'll help you figure out which real people and real companies you can help.

Also, what sorts of people and companies YOU want to do business with.

So you can make sure you only work on projects that excite you.

And deal with people you like and can trust.

Two Bonuses To Help You Get Started.

Not only will we run through the 3 steps you need to go through to get started.

You'll also get the 5 most common mistakes freelancers make when communicating with clients.

Learn from other's mistakes so you can avoid them.

Build relationships with customers that last.

That will make them hire you again and again.

You'll also get an example quote. That I've used over and over again. So you get over the biggest hurdle of getting the cost over to a potential client.

Plus in the quote, I'll highlight a few little secrets that I've found make people say yes without hesitation.

Here's to your freelancing success.
